September 19th
It has been good to have the full band together for the first time
for several months at Blackpool Zoo, the Old Tithe Barn and Carlisle
Jazz Club. It enabled us to play programmes of many of our best arranged
numbers like "The Fish Seller" "The Mooche" "Swipsey Cakewalk" and
"Working Man Blues" and revive "Hiawatha Rag" "Chimes Blues" and work
"That's a Plenty" and "Original Dixieland One Step" into the repertoire.
Rosie has some new vocals which are going well. - "You Always Hurt The
One You Love" "Sam Jones Blues" and "The Glory Of Love" a duet with
Steve.
The jazz day at the zoo was cold and disappointingly attended, the
Victorian Day at Kirkby Lonsdale and Whalley Abbey were exceedingly and
soakingly wet. But the Tithe Barn, Gibbon Bridge Hotel Wine Banquet and
Carlisle were super evenings with excellent and responsive audiences.
The "scratch band" at Gibbon Bridge lead by Steve on cornet with Jack
Schofield and Mike Lovell as his sidesman and with Roger Middleton
swinging us along on guitar, was a great evening.
September is a busy month with wedding receptions at Churchtown and
on the Tern on Lake Windermere, a jazz night at the Langdale Hotel
followed by the Lancaster Jazz Festival in Sun Square on Saturday 16th.
Our fourth jazz Vespers in St. Mary's Kirkby Lonsdale will take place on
Sunday 17th. The following week we return to the beautiful Leighton Hall
to celebrate Silverdale Golf Club's Centenary. The following day we play
for a wedding fair at the Langdale Hotel.
After that we shall be back at the Langdale Hotel for our usual jazz
night on 28th September and then at the Horse and Farrier on the 5th
October. The date at Bentham has been put back due to a clash with
another event at the pub.
Now turn to our gig
list, and let the good times roll!!
